Perceivable

Can anyone perceive all the information that appears on your digital content, such as text, images, video, and more? If a user can’t see your website’s image or listen to your website’s video, what alternative can you provide?

Navigable

Does everyone have the capability to navigate through your digital content? Can they use all the features necessary, particularly operational elements such as a content page, contact form, or relevant hyperlinks?

Understandable

How would someone understand your digital content? Whether you have included text, imagery, videos, or even tools like a calculator or signup form, will all users be able to comprehend and experience what is published?

All users should have the ability to receive the same experience, even when using assistive technologies.

For example, someone visually reading your content should get the same information and experience as someone using a voice reader to read your content.

How to view the accessible version of your Turtl Doc

All Turtl Docs are zoomable (press CTRL/CMD and + or -) in accordance with ADA, and they also have an accessible version that is compliant with ADA and WCAG 2.1 AA regulations.

The accessible version of your content is mainly used by screen readers. When a screen reader arrives on a Turtl Doc, the first thing it reads is: "Press enter to view the accessible version of this page". On pressing enter, the browser redirects to the accessible version, which the screen reader can navigate. You can view this accessible version by adding "?accessible" to the end of the URL.

So team.turtl.co/story/content-psychology-101 becomes team.turtl.co/story/content-psychology-101?accessible.

The accessible version of your document follows the same layout as your mobile view, so everything will be presented in the same flow as it's ordered in the editor. Turtl Docs (and even all the buttons within) can be navigated using only the tab and enter keys on your keyboard.

Six simple steps to an accessible Turtl Doc

Embed descriptive and contextual alt text to all images, charts, and graphics
Include captions and audio descriptions with every video
Add in transcripts for audio clips in a text box widget
Clarify your text with headings, labels, and error suggestions, especially if using forms
Incorporate inclusive formatting methods (such as clear contrast ratios, text box placements, shareable quotes) to ensure anyone can perceive your content and experience it in the right order
Check navigation is consistent and works for any method including a mobile phone or screen reader
