Q: In addition to climbing, you’re also a passionate advocate for mountain conservation. Can you tell us why this is such an important cause for you?
A: Absolutely. Mountains are not just beautiful—they’re vital ecosystems that provide water, food, and resources for billions of people around the world. Unfortunately, climate change is having a devastating impact on glaciers, wildlife, and the communities that live in and around mountain regions.
As climbers and travelers, we have a responsibility to minimize our footprint and raise awareness about protecting these environments. It’s why I always emphasize "Leave No Trace" principles and support organizations working toward sustainable tourism and conservation.
Q: Speaking of sustainable tourism, what advice would you give to travelers who want to explore mountains responsibly?
A: Great question! First, educate yourself about the region you’re visiting—learn about its culture, its ecosystem, and any conservation challenges it faces. Support local guides and businesses whenever possible; they are often the best stewards of the land. Second, be mindful of your impact: pack out all your trash, stick to marked trails, and avoid disturbing wildlife. Lastly, consider giving back by donating to or volunteering with organizations that work to preserve mountain ecosystems. A small effort on your part can make a big difference.
Thank you so much for sharing your story and wisdom with us, Sarah. We can’t wait to see where your next adventure takes you!
