Questions to ask about your reader demographics

Which distribution channels are most effective for driving readers to my content?

Using the company dashboard, take a look at the Reads by Source chart. Experiment with the location, workspace, and device filters and note the best channel for each. You might find that how-to guides are usually found direct, or that it's most effective to reach mobile users via LinkedIn.

How important is the mobile version of my content?

Take a look at Reads by Device on the company dashboard. This shows you how your readership is split across all of your Docs. Next, change the filter to 'mobile' under the 'All Devices' section. Looking at the Most Read Docs, you'll see which Docs are usually accessed on mobile. There might be a trend here - are guides being read predominantly on desktop, while thought leadership is usually read on mobile?

If you find that your users are predominantly accessing your content via mobile, you can optimize your content accordingly and prioritize mobile-friendly channels.

Where in the world are my readers?

The Reads by Location chart has all the answers. Noting where your readers are accessing your content can help you to be more relevant to their needs - whether that's listing webinar times in their timezone, or responding to their support hour needs. Be sure to adjust your filters on the company dashboard to see the effect this has on your top locations too.

What's my most popular piece of content?

On the company dashboard, scroll down to the Most Read Docs section. Use the timeframe filter to see which Docs are ranked on top over different time periods.

From this, you can see which topics are currently getting the most attention, and which Docs have evergreen relevance.

Which content drives the most signups?

You can find the number of signups for each Doc on the company dashboard. In each individual Doc dashboard, you'll see which individual chapters have accrued the most signups.

Are your readers signing up on more interactive chapters? Is there a pattern to how far a reader gets through your content before signing up?

Which chapters are getting the most engagement?

In the individual document dashboard, you'll find a breakdown for each chapter of your Turtl Doc under Page Performance. There are three metrics to be mindful of here:

Avg. Surf Time
Readers who are eager to read your chapter are likely not to stay on a Surf page for too long before getting stuck in.

CTR (click-through-rate)
A high percentage here means your readers are engaged with the Surf page topic.

Avg. Immerse Time
The more time spent reading the Doc, the more likely it is that you've kept your reader's attention.

Do readers want to share my content on socials?

In the company dashboard, under the Most Read Docs section, you'll find an overview of which Turtl Docs have the most shares across social media. Navigate into individual Doc dashboards and you'll find a breakdown of which chapters are being shared under Page Performance.

Hover over each share to see which platform it was shared on. This data is kindling for your social media strategy, giving you an idea of which content your readers think is share-worthy.

Which content themes or types are getting the most engagement?

Make sure to label your Docs with content type, theme, or any relevant characteristic you want to monitor. This allows you to group Docs together and see their combined data.

Simply use the label filter in your company dashboard to compare overall topic or theme performance.

Which parts of my content could be improved?

In the breakdown on your individual Doc dashboard, you'll see which of your chapters is performing best, and which is getting less attention. Low click-through rates and low average read times are signs that your chapter needs a refresh.

Once you've updated your content, you can go back into your individual Doc dashboard to monitor the success of your improvements.

Questions to ask about your known readers

What's the best way for me to distribute content for this reader?

On the Known Reader dashboard, you see that your reader exclusively reads your content on desktop, that they are located in Canada, and generally access your content directly from your website.

These elements tell you how you can reach them with relevant content: posting in their timezone, with content optimized for their device, on the channel they're most familiar with.

How can I produce content which speaks to this reader's interests?

Select a Known Reader and take a look at the Turtl Docs they've read on their dashboard. Click on each Doc to see which chapters and topics they've been particularly engaged with. This gives you a broad understanding of what type of content they are interested in, and, crucially, what type of content they're likely to engage with in the future.

For example, if you see that a known reader has engaged with thought leadership specific to the recruitment industry, you might target them with a recruitment-specific whitepaper.

What questions might this reader have that I can help with?

Navigate from a Known Reader dashboard into a particular Turtl Doc that they've read. Scroll down to the 'Interactions' heading, where you'll see how the reader has engaged with any interactive elements of your Doc. This is your ticket to knowing where your reader's head is at, and what else they might need from your content.

For example, if, in a poll asking 'Feeling comfortable with quantum mechanics?' the reader selects the 'Absolutely not, please help me' option, you have a clear line of approach. If you see that multiple users share this response (by looking at the individual Doc dashboard), you've got some content to make (or tweak).
